The Oomph Girl

Ann Sheridan's Hollywood co–stars included Humphrey Bogart, George Raft, James Cagney, Ronald Reagan and Cary Grant. She played the title role in the 1947 film noir, Nora Prentiss.

According to Wikipedia, she was reported to have "loathed" the Oomph Girl sobriquet, but in 1940 she relented, saying, "I'm sorry now. I know if it hadn't been for 'oomph' I'd probably still be in the chorus."

She died of cancer in 1967, aged 51.
